Difference between plot and story | Literary Term - Definition, Characteristic and Examples | Learning The Easy Way

Difference between plot and story:

E M Forster explains the difference between plot and story. According to him,

We have defined a story as a narrative of events arranged in their time sequence. On the other hand, A plot is also a narrative of events, the emphasis falling on causality.

For examples,

The king died and then the queen died. It is the example of a story. Again, The king died and then the queen died of grief. It is the example of a plot.

In these examples, The time-sequence is preserved, but the sense of causality overshadows it.
